Night Operations · How It Works

How We Fish After Dark.

Land-based doesn't mean low-tech. It means the boat was never the point. Here's a night on the sand, phase by phase.

Phase 01 — Deployment
A drone carrying a bait rig out over the waves at sunset

The Bait Flies

Your rig rides a drone, not a cast. We fly baits out past the breakers to water nobody reaches from the sand, drop on target, and set the rod in its spike with the bell on.

Phase 02 — The Wait
A night beach camp glowing with professional lights under the stars

Camp Goes Quiet

Professional lighting on, chairs out, coolers open, satellite comms checked. Guides read the water while you settle in. The quiet part is part of it — right up until it isn't.

Phase 03 — The Run
A rod bent hard against dark surf under lantern light

Bell. Rod. Go.

When the bell goes, everything changes. Hands-on coaching through the whole fight, then a fast, careful shallow-water release. Every shark swims home. That's not a policy we bend.

Our Story · Building a Legacy Through Adventure

Four of Us. One Beach at a Time.

J&H Surf Charters is a family operation — four partners who'd rather be standing in the surf at midnight than doing just about anything else. Henri runs the business, Erica runs operations and reservations, Jeff runs fishing ops and safety, and Ashley runs marketing and content. Between the four of us, nothing on your trip is handled by a stranger.

We built this around four things we don't negotiate: safety first, family, education, and conservation. Every shark is released. Every guest learns something real. And we leave every beach cleaner than we found it — that one's non-negotiable too.

“More Than a Catch. An Experience for a Lifetime.”

The J&H Signature · Yours to Keep

The Anglers Adventure Guide.

Most charters end when the tailgate shuts. Ours ends with a handoff: every guest leaves with a personalized Anglers Adventure Guide — a written record of your trip, built while you fished it.

The conditions we read. The rigs we tied and why. The techniques you learned with your own hands. The species you caught and released. It's all in there — so next summer you can walk onto a beach and do this yourselves. We're not trying to keep the knowledge. We're trying to hand it down.

  • Rigs and knots you tied
  • Techniques learned
  • Species caught & released

To Those Who Serve — 10% Off Every Charter.

Active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement, fire, and EMS take 10% off any trip on the ladder. It's a small thing next to what you do, but it's standing policy and it's for every season we run. Thank you.

Safety & Straight Answers

The Questions Everybody Asks.

We make every weather call — not you, and not wishful thinking. Forecast, tides, wind, surf: if the Gulf says no, we don't fish, and you reschedule. Jeff runs safety on every single trip, there's a briefing before any line goes in the water, and first aid and satellite comms sit on the sand all night.

Sharks are wild animals and the surf is the surf. Respecting both is the whole reason this works — and the reason families keep standing next to us in the dark.

Heavy storm surf rolling toward the beach
When it looks like this — we call it

All ages are welcome with a responsible adult, and children stay supervised by their parent or guardian the whole trip. Guides handle every shark — kids fight fish with coaching, from the sand, never in deep water. Add the safety briefing, first aid gear, and satellite comms, and you'll understand why families are most of who we fish with.

J&H makes all weather calls — forecast, tides, wind, and surf. If it's unsafe to operate, you reschedule to another date, no argument from us. The deposit stays non-refundable if you decline the reschedule, but we'd much rather move your night than risk it.

Straight answer: sharks are wild animals, and anyone who guarantees a catch is selling you something. What we can promise is that we fish hard the entire charter — drone-run baits, guides reading the water all night — and that you go home with real skills, real instruction, and your Anglers Adventure Guide either way. Slow nights happen. Wasted nights don't.

A 20% deposit reserves your date, and the balance is due at the beach. The deposit is non-refundable — it's what holds your night against everyone else who wanted it — but weather reschedules always carry it forward to your new date.

Almost nothing. Rods, reels, tackle, bait, chairs, shade, water, and lighting are all on us. Bring clothes for the conditions, footwear you don't mind getting wet, sunscreen or bug spray by season, and any snacks or drinks you like beyond water. Your phone for photos — though the pro photo add-on exists for a reason.

Never. Strict catch-and-release on every shark, every trip. Quick photos in shallow water, a healthy release, and part of every charter is learning how to do that right. We also leave every beach cleaner than we found it. That's the whole deal.
